COVID-19 Alert in New South Wales Arises and Star Sydney Is Shut
Star Sydney is temporarily closed, because of new COVID-19 alert. Almost all operations will be suspended at least for two weeks, because new restrictions came into force at New South Wales last week.
As soon as lockdown was announced, Star Entertainment Group stated they would continue with limited hotel operations only for the period of new restrictions. All the staff will continue to receive payments for that period. From the beginning of pandemic, Star Sydney is suspending operations for the fourth time.
NSW Gambling Services Updates
In July gambling help services will be reorganized. A new structure and a new name (with ‘help’ replaced by ‘aware’) are coming soon. The reorganized GambleAware support will increase community awareness of services aiming to help players recover from gambling problems.
Gamblers can find educational and help resources at GambleAware official website. It tells about risks, possibilities to win, and teaches to talk to kids about children. As gambling evokes, this project reflects with educational and supporting materials.
Australian Casino Industry Changes
The structural change in Australian casino industry might occur because of increased regulatory oversight. Operators are controlled thoroughly after several previous casino-related cases.
On one hand, casino operators will have to invest in compliance systems to continue their operations. On the other hand, some elements of business may be terminated, and the overall revenue might decrease, according to analysts.
Ahead from strict regulations, there are also other sources of change influencing gambling in Australia. Other negative factors are international border closure due to pandemic, restrictions on domestic gambling, and rising tensions with China. All of these had an impact on VIP business. But mass domestic play demonstrates resilience and strengthens the sector. Since Australia announced travel restrictions in March 2020, VIP casino sector has been almost zero. No return is expected at least until mid-2022.
